This journey hasn’t just been about loving each other; it’s been about growing, evolving, and transforming together. We’ve witnessed our love deepen, mature, and adapt through all seasons of life.
One of the most precious fruits of these seven years has been the arrival of our three beautiful daughters. They have filled our home and our lives with boundless energy, laughter, and an entirely new dimension of love. Raising them has been a shared adventure, teaching us patience, resilience, and the immeasurable joy of parenthood. Their presence has undoubtedly strengthened our bond, making our family unit richer and more vibrant than we could have ever imagined.
Our marriage has also been a beautiful merging of two distinct individuals from different backgrounds, bringing together unique perspectives and traditions. This process of becoming one has been a constant dance of learning, adapting, and celebrating our differences, ultimately forging a stronger, more complete partnership. Our marriage is not merely a union of two; it is a powerful “threefold cord” – Him, me, and God. As eloquently stated in Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” This profound Biblical principle serves as the bedrock of our commitment.
Having God at the center means our bond is fortified by divine strength and unwavering love. He provides the wisdom to resolve conflicts, the grace to offer forgiveness, and the spiritual foundation upon which true enduring love can flourish. An Anniversary Adventure: Our Day at Como Zoo
To celebrate this special anniversary, my incredible husband, Mr. N, took a well-deserved day off from work. We made arrangements for our girls to have a wonderful time with a babysitter, allowing us the precious opportunity for uninterrupted quality time, just the two of us. We firmly believe that nurturing the core relationship through dedicated date days is essential for keeping the spark alive amidst the beautiful chaos of family life.
Our chosen destination for this memorable day out was the Como Zoo, a gem located right here in Minnesota. We appreciate its accessibility and its mission to provide an enriching experience for everyone, often operating on a donation basis – we happily contributed around $3 each. It’s a fantastic example of how truly special moments and educational experiences can be enjoyed without a hefty price tag. We were particularly excited about our visit, as it promised the unique opportunity to see several magnificent animals for the very first time.
Among the many incredible sights, one of the most captivating was undoubtedly the majestic lioness. Her powerful stride and regal demeanor commanded our attention. We spent a significant amount of time observing her, mesmerized by her grace and inherent strength, a true queen of the savannah in a Minnesota setting.
Adjacent to her, her equally impressive mate, the lion, was thoroughly enjoying a deep, peaceful slumber. It was quite a sight, the king of the jungle completely at ease, seemingly oblivious to the curious eyes watching him. Despite his formidable reputation, he looked utterly serene, a picture of tranquil power.
While the lion continued his nap, the lioness remained more active, providing us with a truly heartwarming moment. At one point, she gracefully rose and began to tenderly lick her sleeping partner, a gesture that was undeniably sweet and romantic. It was a beautiful display of affection between these powerful creatures. As she continued this loving act, a little girl, perhaps six years old, standing beside us, exclaimed with pure innocence, “There should be a baby somewhere!” Her adorable observation brought a shared smile to our faces, a charming highlight of our zoo visit.
Our journey through the animal kingdom continued with another first-time encounter: the magnificent giraffes! Their incredible height and elegant, elongated necks were truly a sight to behold. Watching them move with such grace and stretch to reach high branches was a mesmerizing experience, showcasing the wonders of nature’s design.
Next, we were captivated by the striking beauty of the zebras. Their distinctive black and white stripes created a dazzling optical effect, with each animal’s pattern appearing uniquely intricate. It was a wonderful reminder of the natural world’s incredible artistry and diversity.
We also came across some truly beautiful animals whose names, in the excitement of the moment, have momentarily slipped my mind. Nevertheless, their unique features and captivating presence left a lasting impression, adding to the richness and wonder of our anniversary outing.
The flamingos were another vibrant highlight, standing gracefully on one leg, their delicate pink plumage a stark and beautiful contrast to the more powerful beasts we had seen. Their elegant poise and communal gathering were truly a sight to behold, adding a splash of color to our day.
And this majestic, large bird, with its impressive size and commanding presence, held our attention for a considerable time. Its unique features and calm demeanor showcased the incredible diversity and grandeur of avian life within the zoo.
Perhaps the most amusing encounter was with the resident gorilla. This magnificent creature, with its profound gaze, was definitely “doing shakara for us,” as we playfully say – essentially giving us a bit of an attitude! It sat there, observing the crowd with an air of dignified indifference, almost as if silently asserting its dominance over its domain. Its intelligence and powerful yet thoughtful posture were truly captivating.
From Wildlife Wonders to Italian Delights
After immersing ourselves in the fascinating world of animals for about an hour and a half, our appetites began to signal that it was time for the next exciting part of our anniversary celebration: dinner at my absolute favorite Italian restaurant. The thought of delicious pasta, warm bread, and a cozy ambiance made the short drive even more delightful.
The dinner was a truly wonderful experience, filled with delectable food and even richer conversation. These moments, where we can simply sit, relax, and enjoy each other’s company without the distractions of everyday life, are invaluable for strengthening our bond. I hesitated briefly before including this next picture, but it truly captures a candid moment of joy and contentment from our day, reflecting the genuine happiness we shared. It’s an authentic snippet of our celebration.
Our initial plan was to round off the evening with a movie at the local theatre. However, after a full day of exploring, walking, and indulging in a delicious dinner, tiredness began to gently creep in. As Mr. N spoke in the car, I found myself nodding along with a bit too much enthusiasm, which was my subtle, sleepy signal that a nap was definitely in order. We wisely decided that heading home for some rest was the best course of action. While I did genuinely miss the aroma and taste of buttery movie theatre popcorn, the thought of cozying up at home felt equally appealing after such a perfect and memorable day.
After nearly eight wonderful hours dedicated solely to us, reconnecting and celebrating our love, we returned to pick up our girls from the babysitter. Seamlessly, we transitioned back into our cherished family routine, bringing the joyous energy and refreshed spirit of our anniversary day into the warmth and comfort of our home.
Continuing the Celebration: Community and Selfless Love
Our anniversary celebration isn’t quite over yet! Tomorrow, we have exciting plans to continue the festivities by grilling a truly BIIIIG fish! Mr. N will be extending invitations to some of our wonderful neighbors, turning our personal milestone into a broader celebration of community, friendship, and gratitude. Sharing our joy with those around us is an integral part of our life together, reflecting the abundance and blessings we feel.
This spirit of sharing and selfless giving resonated deeply with a powerful message we heard at church on Sunday. The sermon focused on the profound concept of loving selflessly, emphasizing that “to love is to die.” This isn’t about physical demise, but rather a profound call to surrender our ego, our personal desires, and our comforts for the sake of another. It’s about embodying a sacrificial love, just as Jesus exemplified by loving us so much that He ultimately gave His life for us. In the context of marriage, this translates into daily acts of patience, understanding, forgiveness, and consistently prioritizing our spouse’s needs and well-being. It’s a continuous, conscious choice to give, to nurture, and to grow together in a way that truly honors God and strengthens our bond.
