Hello, wonderful friends and fellow adventurers on the internet! I hope this message finds you well, thriving, and perhaps even enjoying a cozy moment with a warm drink. It truly feels like ages since we last had one of our heart-to-heart, chatty catch-ups, and with the festive season upon us, there’s no better time to pull up a virtual chair and share what’s been happening in my world. While my kitchen is usually buzzing with new recipe ideas, today, we’re taking a delightful detour from the culinary creations to dive into a more personal update. Think of this as a friendly conversation over coffee, where I lay out some of the thoughts, feelings, and exciting (and sometimes challenging) moments that have recently filled my days.
In this much-anticipated chat, I’m eager to discuss a few topics that have been on my mind, reflecting on both the small joys and the bigger shifts in life. Let’s get comfortable and explore these points together:
- Reflections on the Christmas Tree Tradition
- Embracing the Beautiful California Weather
- My Journey with YouTube Cooking Videos
- The Unstoppable Growth of My Precious Babies

Reflections on the Christmas Tree Tradition
As December unfolds with its sparkling lights and festive cheer, a common question often arises: “Is your Christmas tree up yet?” And my honest answer, for the past few years, has been no. In fact, ever since my family and I embarked on our new chapter here in the United States, the tradition of putting up a Christmas tree has, perhaps surprisingly, taken a backseat. This isn’t due to a lack of holiday spirit, but rather a profound shift in how we experience this time of year.
Life, as it often does, has presented new realities and rhythms. The absence of my extended family – my dear parents, brothers, and sisters – who are not here with us, has undoubtedly shaped our holiday celebrations. When your closest kin are thousands of miles away, the festive atmosphere, which often thrives on shared traditions and familiar faces, feels inherently different. The motivation to engage in certain rituals, like meticulously decorating a tree, sometimes wanes when the usual cast of characters isn’t present to partake in the magic. Our Christmas celebrations have evolved, becoming more intimate and perhaps less outwardly traditional than they once were.
Beyond the personal circumstances, I also find myself grappling with somewhat conflicting perspectives regarding the Christmas tree itself. On one hand, I absolutely adore the sight of a beautifully decorated tree. It instantly transforms a home, infusing it with an undeniable sense of warmth, joy, and festive wonder. The twinkling lights, the glittering ornaments, the aroma of pine – these elements contribute to an enchanting atmosphere that is truly special. Yet, on the other hand, I’ve come to question its absolute necessity. Is it truly essential for capturing the essence of Christmas, or has it become a more symbolic, almost optional, component of the holiday experience?
I won’t pretend that this internal debate doesn’t leave me feeling a little out of sync at times. When scrolling through social media or driving past homes aglow with festive displays, there’s a momentary pang of feeling somewhat “left out” or even a bit peculiar. I’ve even harbored intentions of hanging a few simple decorations, just to add a touch of cheer to our space, but time seems to slip away before I can get to it. So, if you, like me, find your home without a towering, lit-up evergreen this season, please know that you are certainly not alone in this sentiment. Christmas can be celebrated and cherished in countless ways, each reflecting the unique circumstances and heartfelt desires of a family.
Regardless of whether a tree graces our living room, the true spirit of the season remains paramount. For me, a significant part of that spirit lies in reflection and understanding. One of my most cherished Christmas reads that truly helps me connect with the deeper meaning of the season is this insightful post on 15 fascinating things that happened at the birth of Jesus. It’s a wonderful reminder of the profound origins of the holiday, offering a perspective that transcends material decorations.

Embracing the Beautiful California Weather
If there’s one aspect of living in California that consistently brings a smile to my face and a sense of profound gratitude, it’s undoubtedly the weather. Truly, I don’t think I will ever cease to be amazed by the sheer perfection of the climate here. It still feels surreal to be taking leisurely walks in December, basking in the pleasant sunshine and enjoying the crisp, yet mild, air. For someone who has experienced starker winters, this continuous stretch of agreeable weather feels nothing short of a dream come true. It’s a constant source of wonder and joy, making even the simplest daily activities feel incredibly special.
Since we made the move to California, there’s been an underlying feeling, a persistent whisper in the back of my mind, that I am somehow on an extended, idyllic vacation. And believe me, I am not exaggerating. The absence of harsh, biting winters, the kind that demand heavy layering and constant vigilance against the cold, is a luxury I truly cherish. I no longer contend with the dread of impending snow blizzards, nor do I face the arduous task of shoveling snow from driveways and walkways. That particular chore, a familiar winter ritual in many parts of the world, is now a distant memory, replaced by the effortless joy of stepping outside into inviting temperatures.
This remarkable climate isn’t just about comfort; it profoundly influences our lifestyle. It means more time spent outdoors, whether it’s exploring local parks, enjoying beach strolls, or simply relaxing in the backyard. The consistent sunshine has a noticeable uplifting effect on mood and energy levels, making it easier to maintain an active and vibrant routine throughout the entire year. It fosters a sense of freedom and spontaneity, allowing for last-minute outdoor plans without the constant worry of weather forecasts. The ability to enjoy nature and outdoor activities year-round has been a refreshing change, contributing significantly to our overall well-being and sense of contentment. Honestly, this is a lifestyle I could wholeheartedly embrace and live with indefinitely. It’s truly a gift to experience such consistent beauty and comfort in our daily lives.

My Journey with YouTube Cooking Videos
My dearest community, first and foremost, I owe you all a heartfelt apology for my extended absence from YouTube! I know many of you eagerly anticipate new cooking videos, and the thought of not having posted fresh content has truly been haunting me for quite some time. It’s a creative space I deeply love, and the silence there has been a source of genuine frustration for me, stemming from a desire to always deliver my best.
It’s not for lack of trying, I assure you. I’ve actually dedicated significant time to shooting several new videos over the past few weeks and months. However, the challenging part has been the outcome: none of them have quite measured up to the vision I had in my mind. Whether it was a technical glitch with the camera, a lighting issue that didn’t quite capture the vibrancy of the food, or simply a flow in the editing that didn’t feel authentic, I found myself holding back. My perfectionist tendencies kick in, and I simply can’t bring myself to release content that doesn’t meet my own high standards for quality and clarity. The goal is always to provide you with not just a recipe, but an enjoyable and inspiring visual experience that makes cooking accessible and fun.
With Christmas rapidly approaching, a time when many of us turn to our kitchens for festive preparations, I’ve refocused my efforts. My current mission is to release at least two brand new cooking videos specifically tailored to help you with your holiday cooking needs. I’m thinking of recipes that are both delicious and relatively straightforward, designed to add that special touch to your festive tables without adding undue stress. The aim is to empower you to create memorable dishes with confidence and ease. I am pouring all my energy into ensuring these upcoming videos are exactly what you’ve been waiting for: clear, engaging, and utterly delicious.
If all goes according to plan, you can expect the first of these much-anticipated videos to go live in the coming days. I am meticulously reviewing every detail to ensure it’s perfect before hitting that publish button. Please know that your patience and understanding mean the world to me. I promise to keep you all thoroughly updated on the progress and release dates through my Instagram and Facebook stories, as well as on my YouTube community page. Your support fuels my passion, and I can’t wait to share these new culinary creations with you very soon!
My Babies – They Are Growing So Fast!
Life at home continues to be a whirlwind of joy, laughter, and a touch of delightful chaos, all thanks to my growing girls. It truly feels like just yesterday I was holding them as tiny newborns, and now, they are transforming before my very eyes. This section of our chat is dedicated to sharing some precious milestones and heartwarming anecdotes about my two little bundles of energy.
Baby Essie’s First Year: A Bittersweet Milestone
Can you believe that my sweet Baby Essie just celebrated her very first birthday? It feels absolutely astonishing how quickly that year flew by. There’s a profound mix of emotions swirling within me – an overwhelming sense of gratitude for her healthy development, immense pride in every new skill she masters, and a definite pang of wistfulness. She is still so wonderfully chubby and sweet, with those irresistible baby rolls and an infectious giggle that melts my heart. Part of me selfishly wishes she could stay my tiny baby forever, safe in the cocoon of infancy, but another part is utterly thrilled to witness her blossoming personality and growing independence.
Essie is now a busy bee, always on the go, exploring her surroundings with boundless curiosity. Capturing her in photographs these days has become an Olympic-level sport! She simply can’t sit still for more than a fraction of a second, constantly wiggling, crawling, or attempting to stand. Every photo shoot is a test of patience, speed, and creative improvisation. I remember the amusing struggle of trying to take her 12-month milestone pictures. I had this adorable “12 months” sticker, perfectly designed to be affixed to her little outfit. But Essie, with her newfound dexterity and mischievous spirit, kept grabbing at it, tearing it off before I could even click the shutter. In a moment of photographic ingenuity, I simply placed the torn sticker on the chair next to her, hoping it would convey the message, and managed to snap a few charming pictures amidst her energetic movements. Those photos, complete with the slightly askew sticker, now serve as a testament to her vibrant personality and the beautiful chaos of her first year.
Salma’s Seventh Birthday and Budding Culinary Passions
Meanwhile, my energetic Salma also recently celebrated her seventh birthday, marking another wonderful year of growth and discovery. This girl is absolutely delightful, and I couldn’t be prouder of her. What truly warms my heart is her blossoming obsession with cooking, a passion that she clearly inherited from me! She is constantly by my side in the kitchen, asking questions, offering to help, and even making bold declarations about one day taking over my culinary domain. It’s both incredibly endearing and a little amusing to hear her “threaten” to claim my kitchen as her own – a challenge I happily welcome!
Her birthday celebration was filled with love and thoughtful gestures. Her older sister, with immense care and creativity, crafted a beautiful crown made entirely of paper, adding a personal touch that meant the world to Salma. It’s incredibly heartwarming to witness the bond between my daughters and the effort they put into creating handmade gifts for each other, imbued with genuine affection. For her birthday, Salma had a very specific request: my signature lemon pound cake. It’s a recipe she adores, and it was a joy to bake it specially for her big day.
I decided to bake the cake in a single bundt pan, deviating from my usual recipe which sometimes calls for two pans, to create a grander, more celebratory presentation. The aroma that filled the kitchen was simply divine. To elevate the cake further, we made a batch of lightly sweetened whipped cream, which we generously spread over the cool, moist pound cake. To finish, we adorned it with an assortment of fresh, colorful fruits, making it not just delicious but also a feast for the eyes. It was a perfect, homemade centerpiece for her special day, reflecting both her favorite flavors and the love that went into its preparation.

Anticipating More Celebrations Ahead
As we wrap up the current year, it’s clear that the celebrations are far from over in our household. We have a few more exciting birthdays scheduled for early next year, which means our “birthday season” is just around the corner. Once this delightful period of celebrations rolls into my home, it truly takes a while before the last candle is blown out and the last slice of cake is savored. It’s a wonderful time of year, filled with anticipation, joy, and plenty of opportunities for family gatherings and sweet treats.
Now that I’ve shared a glimpse into my world, I’m eager to hear from you! What traditions are you embracing this holiday season? Do you have a festive Christmas tree gracing your home, or are you charting your own unique path for holiday decorations? What are some of your absolute favorite things to do, see, or create during this magical time of year? Please share your thoughts and traditions in the comments below – I love hearing about your experiences and connecting with each of you.
Here’s to wishing you a truly fantastic week ahead, filled with warmth, good company, and countless blessings. May the rest of your year be absolutely wonderful, and may you find joy in every moment, big or small. Until our next chat, take care!
